How long have you been building homes?

It’s important to select a builder who is qualified and reputable. Not only are they trusted by the community, but they have the knowledge and expertise that comes with years of experience in the industry.

Can you provide me with at least 3 previous clients in the area for references?

Testimonials are one of the best ways to learn how the building process went, firsthand! Feel free to contact previous clients to see if they were satisfied with the overall experience and if there is anything they would change if they were to do it over again.

How do you service clients after possession?

What is your warranty and how do you handle any issues that may arise? It’s important to know how they will handle this, as well as any borderline warranty items. This is also something you could ask past clients- did they have any issues that had to be dealt with and how smoothly did it go?

Can you provide me with at least 3 trades who will be working on my home for references?

A good home builder should treat your home build like it’s their own. And that should be true for the trades who are involved as well. A builder is only as good as the crew they’ve assembled! Make sure you do your research and then make an informed decision from there.

Can I make changes to my home?

What does the communication process look like? A good builder should be easy to reach, and should respond to your requests or questions in a timely manner. Ask the builder how they feel about possible customizations to the home, or changes that may occur throughout the process. It’s imperative you are both on the same page and know what the expectations are from the beginning.

How does the selections process work?

Making selections for your home can be overwhelming! Some home builders only handle the construction process of your build, leaving you to handle all the design details. Do they offer any support for the selections process? Do they have a professional in-house to help guide you through?
